I define a small business employer as an individual with a team in place made up of employees, associates, sub-contract labor, etc. Basically any entity that has people involved to bring a service or product to a client. A small business employer has additional concerns that a self-employed individual may not, including: payroll taxes, insurance, health care, etc.

When I meet with a client for the first time, I have found that individual needs can be broad, but the focus always needs to be narrow and specific. I start by listening, intently, for about an hour or as appropriate. I gather notes on the broad picture then take the time to look at each client's specifics.
